Match Report – Abbreviated

The 40th anniversary of the Oxford v Cambridge Alumni cricket match was played on Sunday, September 18th at the scenic Lord’s Cricket Ground at Upper Canada College. Over 30 spectators braved the heavy rain showers to witness a close cricket match between the long-time rivals. Oxford batted first and amassed a healthy score of 144 runs for 8 wickets off 20 overs. The rain delay allowed for a prolonged tea break where sandwiches and cricket-themed cupcakes were eaten and speeches were held to commemorate the founders of the game, Terence Bredin and Roland Michener. Once the rain stopped, Cambridge in response started strongly and the game seemed to be in the balance until the last few overs when Oxford took some much needed wickets and restricted Cambridge to 115 runs for 8 wickets off 20 overs.

Result: Oxford won by 29 runs. The cumulative standings are: Oxford wins – 20, Cambridge wins – 15, Other (No result/Draws) – 5.
